September was extremely busy. Deploying EVERYTHING, training staff, maintaining inventory, etc... After that I am basically a doctor on call. I have however stopped break fix after 12:30. I needed to take control of my time and addressed student needs and teacher needs in the AM and then admin issues after noon.
Every week is different, and as the school year progresses, my schedule changes. Sept. and a good part of October were spent correcting the inventory and doing 17 three period OOTB for our students who weren't done at deployment.
Now I am spending less time with those types of issues and my role is changing.
In a typical 35 period week, I spend anywhere from 15 to 20 periods a week in classrooms helping with technology integration or providing push in tech support for teachers who have made appointments and requested help. The rest of my time is spent troubleshooting hardware and software issues, planning for classroom visits, correspondence and meeting with teachers and administrators to discuss issues.
There is no such thing as a typical week for the tech coach. Everyday the tech coach meets new challenges. New challenges are met with careful planning and implementation. We recently managed a deployment of over 800 laptops to the classroom. In addition, we are currently implementing Out of the Box training. In two weeks, we will be reimaging all the old iTiL laptops, which are approximately 500.
On going professional developments are provided to our teachers. I meet daily with teachers on a one to one basis. Furthermore, I provide group professional developments. I create policy memos and work with administrators to ensure laptop safety. The technology coach provides many services that benefit the teachers and students at the school.
I also serve as advisor to our MouseSquad, which meets daily.
I wear many hats in my position from Coach to Depot Manager to Teacher. I teach classes in Technology, Computer Talent and eight grade Advisory. I also train the Mouse Squad. The rest of the day I push in to every classroom at least once a week to assist the teacher with implementing the use of technology in the classroom. Unfortunately, this schedule does not leave me any time to collaborate with the teachers. I would like to have more time to sit with them during their planning period but that's when I'm teaching a class. During their preps I'm in with another teacher. I'm hoping to have this schedule amended so I can have more planning and collaboration time with the teachers.
I spend most of my time giving support to teachers that are having issues (either hardware or software).
Typically they are smartboard, printing and internet issues.
Currently I am not spending much time with student laptop problems. It's still early in the year. This takes up more of my time after December, when students have been using them for a few months.
I push-in to classes and support instruction when I can. Usually this is informal. At times a teacher will request my presence during a particular lesson. I spend about 5 - 10 periods a week working one on one with teachers.
