Has anyone ever used Mimio? Any opinions about Mimio vs Smartboard?

The power of the interactive whiteboard, be it SMARTBoards, Prometheans or others, lies in its ability to engage kinesthetic learners. These are the kids in the back of the room who need to move to learn. Athletics anyone? How about dancers? Swimmers? Basketball players? These are all kids who learn through movement. Interactive whiteboards, when used as a learning tool not just a projection screen for teachers, require that students get up out of their seats, walk to the board and tactilely move objects around on the board. They become visually, tactilely and kinesthetically involved. This is a very powerful tool...the power to engage through multiple learning styles. We, as educators, need to use every tool possible to engage our students. It is their right and our responsibility.

I think you are asking us very important questions. For years I didn't want to use the smartboard because I didn't see a big difference. So what that I can show MY power presentation or a video??? It keeps the students passive learners and I have the most fun when I am creating my power point presentation :):):)
Then a couple of years ago I realized that I could use the smart board if my students can have an input to it from their computers, then they are active and learning by doing, and I show some specific things on the smart board like the answer to the same question or a typical mistake that applies to more than 1 student.
And you know what I learned on the last PD I attended??? They are making it possible. The company that makes smart boards now is about to make students' pads that will have an input to the main computer. Now I see that the smart board has a future.
